A Tale of Two Mannings -- If you find yourself thinking about this Sunday's NFL games today, you are not the only one. After a great opening game Thursday night, we are ready for a Sunday that brings us several excellent matchups including one that pitts brother against brother.
· Colts (-3.5) at New York Giants
Manning vs. Manning. I wish there was an over/under on times the cameras cut to their mom during the game. In this possible Superbowl match up, the brothers face-off for the first time in their careers. The colts are without Edgerrin James after the departure of the running back to free agency in the off-season. Don’t look for this offense to miss a beat with the options Peyton Manning has at wide receiver. His little brother Eli, now one year more comfortable with the Giants, looks to spoil the season debut for the preseason favorites to win it all. PICK: Colts
· Cowboys (+2) at Jaguars
The long awaited debut of T.O. in Dallas is here. After finally practicing at full speed and apparently ready to go, we can’t wait to find out how this pairing of “the player” and Bill Parcells plays out. The Jaguars have one of the leagues best rush defenses. With quality targets in the pass game look for Drew Bledsoe to have to shoulder the load. With the Cowboys getting points in T.O.’s debut, sign me up! PICK: Cowboys
· Broncos (-3.5) at Rams
This figures to be one of the higher scoring games of the week. How will the Rams offense respond to the departure of former head coach Mike Martz? With most of the starters returning and Steven Jackson now running the ball fulltime we think they can’t be downgraded. The Broncos enter St. Louis with hopes of returning to the AFC championship. With the addition of Javon Walker in the off-season, this offense will keep pace. The difference in the game will be Denvers superior defense. PICK: Broncos
· Bengals (+2) at Chiefs
How will Carson Palmers knee respond to regular season NFL game speed? He looked to have returned to the Palmer of old in preseason. If the line can protect him look for him to hit his stud wide receiver core early and often. The Chiefs will rely on their premier running back Larry Johnson. Johnson had nine straight 100-yard rushing games to end the 2005 campaign. The Bengals are not as one dimensional as the Chiefs making this one of the best bets on the board. PICK: Bengals
Other picks to give strong consideration to have to be Patriots (-10) covering against the Bills, Panthers (-5) covering (if Steve Smith plays) against the Falcons, and Cardinals (-7.5) covering against the 49ers.
